Youth Baseball Programs

The VBC offers classes for hitting, pitching, catching, and overall skills.  Scroll down to see descriptions of programs and register online.

Programs have been scheduled so that players can register for back-to-back sessions for hitting/pitching or hitting/catching.

Youth Winter Session  - 8 week session: Starts the week of December 1st through February 8th (no classes Dec. 24-Jan. 4): Open cage time during Holiday breaks for players enrolled in winter session classes.

Youth Spring Training: 6 week sessionStarts the week of February 9th through March 22nd.

OVERALL SKILLS This is one of our most popular programs. It covers all aspects of the game (except pitching). Our skilled coaches provide lots of repetitions and constant feedback. Players are grouped by age and skill level. 4:1 ratio (3:1 on Sundays) or less in all classes.

Level 1

(Ages 7-8)

This class is also a great balance between skill development and fun competitions. The one-hour class is divided into two, 30-minute sessions (hitting and throwing/catching/fielding). Hitters learn and practice consistent stance, weight load and stride, short-to-long swing path through the ball, visual tracking, and balanced finish. Hitters receive lots of live repetitions from coach pitch. Fielders learn and practice correct throwing motion, catching with fingers up, fielding ground balls and throwing to first base. Fun competitions in each session. 

Level 2

(Ages 8-10)

This one-hour class is divided into two, 30-minute sessions (hitting and throwing/catching/fielding). Hitters learn and practice consistent stance, weight load and stride, short-to-long swing path through the ball, visual tracking, contact positions, and balanced finish. Hitters receive lots of repetitions from coach pitch and JUGS pitching machine. Fielders learn and practice correct throwing motion, proper catching and exchange from glove to hand, fielding ground balls (including forehands and backhands) and playing first base. Fun competitions in each session. 

Level 3

(Ages 10-12)

This one-hour class is divided into two, 30-minute sessions (hitting and throwing/catching/fielding). Hitters learn and practice consistent stance, weight load and stride, short-to-long swing path through the ball, visual tracking, contact positions, extension through the ball, and balanced finish. Hitters receive lots of repetitions from coach pitch and JUGS pitching machine. Fielders learn and practice correct throwing motion, proper catching and exchange from glove to hand, fielding ground balls (including forehands and backhands) and playing first base. HITTING All hitting programs include extensive work in hitting mechanics and mental approaches to hitting. Players learn and practice hitting skills which are broken down into upper and lower body mechanics. Hitting techniques are applied appropriately to individual's style of hitting and body type. Each player receives a digital video analysis of their swing in class. Players are grouped by age and skill level. 4:1 ratio (3:1 on Sundays) or less in all classes. Several of the hitting classes are scheduled back-to-back with pitching classes.

Level 1

(Ages 7-8)

Hitters learn and practice consistent stance, weight load and stride, short-to-long swing path through the ball, visual tracking, and balanced finish. Hitters receive lots of live repetitions from coach pitch. Meaningful, age-appropriate drills are used to reinforce correct hitting fundamentals.

Level 2

(Ages 8-10)

Hitters learn and practice consistent stance, weight load and stride, short-to-long swing path through the ball, and balanced finish. Hitters receive lots of repetitions from coach pitch and JUGS pitching machine. Meaningful, age-appropriate drills are used to reinforce correct hitting fundamentals. Players are divided by age and skill level. Each player receives a digital video analysis of their swing in class.

Level 3 

(Ages 10-12)

Hitters review and practice consistent stance, weight load and stride, short-to-long swing path through the ball, visual tracking, contact positions, extension through the ball, and balanced finish. Hitters receive lots of repetitions from coach pitch and JUGS pitching machine. Meaningful, age-appropriate drills are used to reinforce correct hitting fundamentals. Players are divided by age and skill level. Each player has their swing recorded and analyzed by a VBC coach in class.

PITCHING All pitching programs include extensive work in pitching mechanics and mental approaches related to pitching. Each session includes both physical and mental aspects. Body conditioning, warm up, and arm strengthening each class. Players learn and practice pitching skills. Each player gets plenty of reps pitching off our indoor mounds. Players are grouped by age and skill level.  4:1 ratio or less in all classes. Several of our pitching classes are scheduled back-to-back with our hitting classes.

Level 1

 (Ages 7-8)

Pitchers learn fundamentals of arm care, arm-strength conditioning, age-appropriate grip, rocker-step, pivot, balance, stride to balanced power position, arm slot and release, and follow through. Pitchers develop proper throwing form through drills and repetitions. Supervised bullpens each session.

Level 2

(Ages 8-10)

Pitchers learn fundamentals of arm care, arm-strength conditioning, pitch grips, balance, hand separation, stride to balanced power position, arm slot and release, extension, and follow through. Pitch location emphasized. Supervised bullpens each session. Each player has their pitching recorded and analyzed by a VBC coach in class.

Level 3 

Ages (10-12)

Pitchers review fundamentals of arm care, arm-strength conditioning, pitch grips, balance, hand separation, driving lower body to power position, arm slot and release, extension, and follow through. Pitchers develop off speed change ups. Pitch location emphasized. Supervised bullpens each session. Each player has their pitching recorded and analyzed by a VBC coach in class.
50/70 and Senior League (Ages 12-13)

 

Pitchers learn arm care, arm-strength conditioning, various pitch grips, balance, hand separation, arm slot and release, extension, and follow through. Pitchers develop off speed pitches and fastball movement. Throwing from the stretch position and controlling the running game introduced. Supervised bullpens each session. Each player has their pitching recorded and analyzed by a VBC coach in class.

CATCHING All catching programs include extensive work in stances, receiving, framing, blocking, footwork, and throwing. We have some catching gear, but players are encouraged to bring their own gear.

 

Ages 7-12.  Players divided by age and skill.

You put together a group of four or more players and we'll work with you to design the program that you want at a time that is convenient for you. You choose the VBC instructor. HOLIDAY CAMPS

The VBC is offering specialty camps at the VBC Center this winter. Come enjoy a day of baseball. Player/coach ratio of 8:1 or less in all Holiday Camps. The camp hours are 9am-2pm. AM and PM Extended hours available at the VBC Merrifield Indoor Training Center. What to bring: water bottle, lunch, glove, bat and helmet.  Limited Space.  See our Indoor Holiday Camp Agenda.

Spring Break Camps 2015-Sharpen your skills and get your baseball season off to a great start by playing baseball with your friends during Spring Break. Hitting, pitching, fielding, base running, and games. Experienced coaches lead the instruction.  A GREAT WAY TO GET READY FOR THE SEASON! LIMITED SPACE AVAILABLE FOR THIS POPULAR PROGRAM!


For Boys and Girls, Mondays through Friday Full Day Hours 9am-2pm. Two locations: VBC Merrifield and Arlington Tuckahoe Park.

VBC GOLD Baseball Conditioning and Injury Prevention Training Program

Led by George Pierson, an experienced Certified Physical Trainer and former professional athlete, the VBC GOLD program is designed to enhance each individual player’s strength, flexibility and confidence, and reducing the chance of injury.  See detailed class description.

For players ages 9-12 (parents may register and join class) and 13-18.  Classes meet at VBC Merrifield Indoor Training Center on Saturday mornings 10am-11am and 11am-12pm.
