Youth Baseball Programs

 

The VBC offers classes for hitting, pitching, catching, and overall skills.  Programs have been scheduled so that players can register for back-to-back sessions for hitting/pitching or hitting/catching.

 

Youth Winter Training: 8 week session: Starts the week of November 28th through February 5th (no classes Dec. 19-Jan. 2): Open cage time during Holiday breaks for players enrolled in winter session classes. 

Youth Spring Training: 6 week sessionStarts the week of February 6th through March 19th.

OVERALL SKILLS This is one of our most popular programs. It covers all aspects of the game (except pitching). Our skilled coaches provide lots of repetitions and constant feedback. Players are grouped by age and skill level. 4:1 ratio or less in all classes.

 

Rookies

 

(Ages 5-6)

 

Players will learn the basic techniques for throwing, hitting and fielding in a fun, non-competitive setting.  Players receive basic instruction and practice hitting off tee and hitting coach-pitch (thrown from one knee), fielding grounders, catching and throwing practiced.  Modified game to teach basic concepts is played in each session. Instructors are positive, enthusiastic and knowledgeable.

Level 1

(Ages 7-8)

This class is also a great balance between skill development and fun competitions. The one-hour class is divided into two, 30-minute sessions (hitting and throwing/catching/fielding). Hitters learn and practice consistent stance, bat grip, short-to-long swing path throughe ball, visual tracking, and balanced finish. Hitters receive lots of live repetitions from coach pitch and pitching machine. h tFielders learn and practice correct throwing motion, catching with fingers up, fielding ground balls and throwing to first base. Fun competitions in each session. 

Level 2

(Ages 8-10)

This one-hour class is divided into two, 30-minute sessions (hitting and throwing/catching/fielding). Hitters learn and practice consistent stance, weight load and stride, short-to-long swing path through the ball, visual tracking, contact positions, and balanced finish. Hitters receive lots of repetitions from coach pitch and JUGS pitching machine. Fielders learn and practice correct throwing motion, proper catching and exchange from glove to hand, fielding ground balls (including forehands and backhands) and playing first base. Fun competitions in each session. 

Level 3

(Ages 10-12)

This one-hour class is divided into two, 30-minute sessions (hitting and throwing/catching/fielding). Hitters learn and practice consistent stance, weight load and stride, short-to-long swing path through the ball, visual tracking, contact positions, extension through the ball, and balanced finish. Hitters receive lots of repetitions from coach pitch and JUGS pitching machine. Fielders learn and practice correct throwing motion, proper catching and exchange from glove to hand, fielding ground balls (including forehands and backhands) and playing first base. Fun competitions in each session.

HITTING All hitting programs include extensive work in hitting mechanics and mental approaches to hitting. Players learn and practice hitting skills which are broken down into upper and lower body mechanics. Hitting techniques are applied appropriately to individual's style of hitting and body type. Players are grouped by age and skill level. 4:1 ratio or less in all classes. Several of the hitting classes are scheduled back-to-back with pitching classes.

Level 1

(Ages 8-10)

Hitters learn and practice consistent stance, weight load and stride, short-to-long swing path through the ball, and balanced finish.  Aggressive mental approach emphasized. Hitters receive lots of repetitions from coach pitch and JUGS pitching machine. Meaningful, age-appropriate drills are used to reinforce correct hitting fundamentals. Players are divided by age and skill level.

Level 2 

(Ages 10-12)

Hitters review and practice consistent stance, weight load and stride, short-to-long swing path through the ball, visual tracking, contact positions, extension through the ball, and balanced finish. Mental aspects and 2-strike hitting emphasized.  Hitters receive lots of repetitions from coach pitch and JUGS pitching machine. Meaningful, age-appropriate drills are used to reinforce correct hitting fundamentals. Players are divided by age and skill level.

PITCHING All pitching programs include extensive work in pitching mechanics and mental approaches related to pitching. Each session includes both physical and mental aspects. Body conditioning, warm up, and arm strengthening each class. Players learn and practice pitching skills. Each player gets plenty of reps pitching off our indoor mounds. Players are grouped by age and skill level.  4:1 ratio or less in all classes. Several of our pitching classes are scheduled back-to-back with our hitting classes.

Level 1

(Ages 8-10)

Pitchers learn fundamentals of arm care, arm-strength conditioning, pitch grips, balance, hand separation, stride to balanced power position, arm slot and release, extension, and follow through.  Supervised bullpens each session. 

Level 2

(Ages 10-12)   46' Mound

Pitchers review fundamentals of arm care, arm-strength conditioning, pitch grips, balance, hand separation, driving lower body to power position, arm slot and release, extension, and follow through. Pitchers develop off speed change ups. Pitch location emphasized. Supervised bullpens each session. 

MS/HS Pitching

50/70

 

Pitchers seeking instruction for 50/70 distance should register for Middle/High School pitching program.

CATCHING  

 

Level 1

(Ages 8-12)

All catching programs include extensive work in stances, receiving, framing, blocking, footwork, and throwing. Ages 8-12.  Players divided by age and skill.

(Catchers are required to bring their own catching gear, catcher’s mitt and protective cup. VBC does not provide gear.)

We can customize a program to meet your players' needs. You put together a group of four or more players and we'll work with you to design the program with the skills that you want at a time that is convenient for you. HOLIDAY CAMPS

Holiday Overall Skills Baseball Camp

The VBC is offering specialty camps at the VBC Indoor Center. Come enjoy a day of baseball. Player/coach ratio of 8:1 or less in all Holiday Camps. The camp hours are 9am-2pm. AM and PM Extended hours available at the VBC Merrifield Indoor Training Center. Sharpen your skills and get your baseball season off to a great start by playing baseball with your friends during Spring Break. Hitting, pitching, fielding, base running, and games. Baseball camps for boys and girls, Mondays through Friday. Full Day Hours 9am-2pm at VBC Merrifield Indoor Training Center.  AM/PM extended hours available. Ages 6-12.
